The oldest Catholic private college in the Archdiocese of Colombo. Administered and managed by the De La Salle Brothers, well known as Lasallian educators, inspired by St. John Baptist de La Salle, the Patron Saint of Teachers and Educators.
As the present Director/Principal of this great institution, I am honored to lead the college with its rich history of academic excellence and a commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment for our students for the past 160 years. In 1837, Sir Robert Wilmot Horton donated £50 to support the first Catholic English school. On May 15, 1839, the Roman Catholic Seminary, which would later become St. Benedict’s College, was opened in Wolfendhal Street by Rt. Rev. Dr. Vincente de Rosario. The Seminary aimed to provide superior English education and had vice-patrons including Rev. Fathers Sebastian Pereira and Caetano Antonio.
St. Benedict’s College emerged as the overall champion and also secured the overall relay championship with a total of 166 points.
